About Wise Paycheck
Wise Paycheck is a small, free set of personal finance calculators built around one idea: the number that matters is the one that reaches your bank account, not the one on the offer letter.
What the site does
Three tools, meant to be used in order:
- Paycheck Tax Calculator — estimates take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, an estimated state rate, and any pre-tax deductions you enter.
- Budget Calculator — takes that take-home figure and splits it across needs, wants, and savings so the plan is built on real money rather than gross salary.
- Home & Mortgage Calculator — estimates a monthly payment including principal, interest, taxes, insurance and PMI, and shows what that implies about affordability.
How it is built
Everything runs in your browser. There is no account to create, no email to hand over, and no server that receives the figures you type. That is a deliberate design choice: a paycheck calculator should not require you to disclose your salary to a stranger.
Where the numbers come from
Federal brackets, the standard deduction, the Social Security wage base and Medicare rates follow the IRS figures published for the tax year shown on the calculator. Mortgage rate context is drawn from the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey, with the survey week stamped in the footer of the home page so you can see how current it is.
State income tax is applied as a single estimated rate per state. This is the largest simplification in the tool: several states use graduated brackets of their own, some have local income taxes on top, and a handful have no income tax at all. Treat the state line as an approximation, not a filing figure.
What it is not
Wise Paycheck is not a tax preparer, a payroll service, a lender, or a financial advisor, and it is not affiliated with the IRS or with any bank. The output is an estimate for planning. Anything with real money attached should be confirmed with a professional.
Who runs it
The site is operated by Best Online Industries. Corrections, questions, and reports of figures that look wrong are genuinely welcome — that feedback is the main way the calculators get more accurate.
